About

I am a social and cultural geographer with research interests in home, work, migration and the city. My PhD explored relationships between home, work and migration among Vietnamese people in East London. This research is being published as a monograph entitled Migration, Work and Home-Making in the City: Dwelling and Belonging among Vietnamese Communities in London, Routledge (Publication: April 2019).

I currently work as a Research Associate in the Centre for Translation and Intercultural Studies at the University of Manchester, on the project Translating Asylum: Translation, interpreting and the British humanitarian response to asylum seeker and refugee arrivals since the 1940s (PI: Dr Rebecca Tipton). The project examines the strategic importance of translation and interpreting in the early reception and resettlement phases of selected groups of asylum seekers and refugees in England, including Vietnamese and Ugandan Asian refugees who arrived in the 1970s and 1980s.

Currently Associate Editor of the journal Crossings: Journal of Migration and Culture.

Co-lead, Dissemination and Public Engagement in Forced Migration Research Knowledge Cluster, Emerging Scholars and Practitioners in Migration (ESPMI) Network
